its coming fast...4 days to PF Changs Rock and Roll Marathon! it will be my 3rd marathon...and my 6 Changs race..really looking forward to running this road race considering how much effort i put in the last 8-9 months -in fact, this race is like two years in the making...
-2010...ran my first marathon! was okay yet it was extremely tough at the end..not sure i would have finish strong without the support of Mavelle...
-2011...2nd marathon...after my first, i suffered a ITBand injury on the right leg about 1.5 months after..the kneecaps were flaring each time i ran...all of 2011 was a rehabilitation year...diggin in with folks at Endurance Rehab (N. Scottsdale)...it was pretty much a strength & conditioning year...yet i was firm on running the fall and winter races (what can i say, i enjoy getting to the start line - yet this time my legs were not my friend..or i not to them)...each race was met with less than spectacular results...each race was not enjoyable, other than one at kiwanis park june 2011. each time i flared up and it was painful...i questioned my soul and spirit...thinking -is this the time to stop or really slowdown due to aging ? :) haha..what is happening, i came out of a shin splint..out of some tight quads yet this one remain a ugly thorn... so many questions....2011 was a time to reflect and dig deep...find a deeper meaning to the soul..think about the body and how to strenghten appropriately and recover between spikes...more about a whole mindset approach...as well as about happiness within...about how family support is so powerful and true...lots of love...keeping it simple...lots of inspiration out there...team spirits with positive folks...
2012---great time for rebuilding the body (and soul) ...after my 2nd marathon, i rested for about a month...then started to think creatively about coming back, though the thoughts of breaking down after a two mile or even an eight mile were constantly in my head; nevertheless, i love to engage the notion of return...my energy was there...spirit ....it was great to reconnect with team scottsdale (team chances) who were preparing for Run for Ryan House 1/2 in March...Andi was generous enough to include me on the team training program, where i was able to start back at DC Ranch ...talk about hilly runs..! i was cautious each time but i ran further each run and without the anguish...just a little un-balanced...afterall the rest dug me in....after one run, she introduced us to two individuals, who to this day are good friends...Ariana Hilborn and Jeremy Zarins - i knew Jeremy from Sole sports...he and i got along well...he is quite the resource and a dedicated and talented athlete and Ariana..lets just say we will be hearing more about her in 2015-16..she is talented and faaaast!!.....she brought them to one of our gathering in DC ranch to hear and learn about their challenges and successes...it was one of the more motivitational settings i been part of ...
after this particular setting, i embark on a great path...about never letting go or not quitting though the big bumps and little ones...about keeping it simple...race results: i ran a great Ryan House 1/2! with no pain... time was about 1:42 ish...and that was in the hills!
my regiment has been wonderful the last half year.....each month, i improved - the big news was ITB did not erupt anymore...my knee did not have a flaring pain....my speed and endurance improved thanks to intense tempo workouts (and echo canyon hikes)...my smile got wider!!! going into the fall 2012 race season was awesome and very productive (knowing it will lead to changs) ....I almost PR'd my 1/2 at Scottsdale's Fiesta Bowl 1/2...i did PR my 30 K at Peoria 30K by like 10 mins!!...and now, looking to hit the start line with lots of smiles and positive attitude....lots of rhythm and power..surrounded by a fully supportive family and friends...
i am re-built....shall we...
